Much busy, Big week

This week has been one of the busiest this year!

My rose bookmarks went down a treat on Mother’s Day. All the mums loved them and my Little Lottie insisted mummy make a flower for her too. I think it’s in her doll house now. The roses are very useful little appliques and I’m planning on adding one or two to Lottie’s next beanie.

My birthday was on Monday and I got so spoiled – Hubby picked me up from working the late shift with thai food and red wine waiting in the car, Lottie was at her grandparents and we had one of those great conversations which starts out as a discussion about your favourite wine and ends up about artificial intelligence and advanced robotics (some seriously cool, seriously scary stuff).

Last night was the best though. After running all over Sydney yesterday visiting friends who are also celebrating birthdays, we got all dressed up and headed to the Opera House for Sydney Symphony Orchestra’s inaugural ‘Chamber Music Cocktail Hour’ and it was wonderful.

Held in the Utzon Room, the intimate setting allows this wonderful up close dialogue with the musicians who curated the series themselves and play in small groups up to a sextet. It’s relaxed, appreciative and everyone is holding a glass of wine or the signature cocktail created and served especially for each performance. Last night’s was a delicious twist on a mojito with grenadine, champagne and lime tying in to the music originally written for choral voices but arranged for trombone for tonight.

My favourite part was (and always is) the strings. The final piece of the night was Brahms’ String Quartet No. 2 in G, Op. 111. It was such a rich, beautiful piece of music and I happily let my mind wander. A delicious dinner and drinks at the newly renovated Opera Kitchen & Opera Bar by my favourite harbour in the world topped off the experience beautifully.

In amongst all the action I have been crocheting like crazy. First priority – Canberra sister’s scarf. It’s already threatening snow down there and one can never have too many scarfs. I’m using a thick and beautifully coloured wool I found at Big W of all places. Hubby has already requested his winter beanie be made of the same stuff. Next up though is an ear warmer for his mother’s morning beach walks.

Busy, busy, but happy, happy.

Have a wonderful Sunday everyone.
